Well, the ELAC Huskies and head hoops coach John Mosley are back — and so are Greg Whiteley’s cameras for Season 2 of Netflix sports-documentary series “Last Chance U: Basketball.” The sophomore season for the spinoff of Whiteley’s JUCO football docuseries “Last Chance U” will premiere December 13 on the streaming service. Netflix released a trailer on Tuesday; check it out below. Beyond Mosley, you won’t see a whole lot of familiar faces in the sneak preview....

Former hit A&E series “Live PD” was cancelled in June 2020 amid protests following the murder of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Simultaneously, the show faced a major controversy of its own when it came out that in 2019 “Live PD” filmed — and eventually destroyed — footage of a man dying in police custody. At the time, producers expressed regret over the destruction of the unaired footage but explained it was standard practice to do so after the investigation into the incident was closed....

“They knew from the beginning that was the size of the canvas…this was a big story with a clear beginning, middle and end,” Payne told Empire magazine. “There are things in the first season that don’t pay off until Season 5. We even know what our final shot of the last episode is going to be.” Payne added that the series follows author Tolkien’s wish to “leave behind a mythology that ‘left scope for other minds and hands, wielding the tools of paint, music, and drama,’” as per one of Tolkien’s letters to his publisher....

The film is supposedly set in a futuristic version of New York that is loosely based on Ancient Rome. Both shows are true crime series that Murphy created with his frequent collaborator Ian Brennan, premiered this fall, and touted as one-season miniseries. “Monster,” which bore the full title of “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” during its first season, will return for two additional seasons as an anthology series, focusing on other “monstrous” figures in history. “The Watcher,” which Murphy and Brennan co-created with Eric Newman, has been renewed for a Season 2, and will presumably follow the same cast of characters as the first season....

Documentary “Moonage Daydream” premieres at Cannes and is set for a September theatrical release. Written, directed, and produced by “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” director Brett Morgen, “Moonage” spans Bowie’s 54-year career with never-before-seen footage of the icon. The film includes 40 remastered songs and its soundtrack is crafted in 12.0, 7.1, and 5.1 stems for an immersive sonic experience tailored to specific theaters. Morgen spent two years selecting footage from the Bowie archive in 16mm and 35mm prints, marking “Moonage” as the first film ever sanctioned by the Bowie estate with access to personal archives....

If the noblest aim of the artist is to become a vessel for divine connection to creative source, then Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman are truly touched. The sheer amount of hypnotic imagery and music on display in “Neptune Frost,” the film chapter in the multifaceted project “MartyrLoserKing” which includes three albums and a graphic novel, is bursting with enough life and ingenuity to fill a solo exhibition. In this fantastical Afrofuturist universe, characters with names like Memory and Psychology traipse amongst whimsical sculptural sets, draped in art-piece costumes and makeup so eye-popping it makes the looks on “Euphoria” seem conventional....

“I talk with Jordan a lot about, ‘What’s the threat level?’,” Abels told IndieWire. “He’ll sometimes say, ‘Something bad is coming, but it’s not here yet.’ It’s very important that each cue match that intention of the script and the storytelling, and that the music not be scarier than where we are or not as scary as where we are,” he said. “Every sound has its natural threat level, I think....

“For us, it’s very similar [to Obi-Wan] in the sense that he’s in between these two trilogies,” Chow said. “So he isn’t the ‘New Hope’ Vader quite yet, you know what I mean? So we are with the character sort of in the middle of this period. Director Chris Smith, who previously documented a peculiar form of American exploitation with his look at the mangled “Fyre” music festival, seems uniquely suited to unearthing some answers. His compelling and sometimes overwrought follow-up presents an infuriating breakdown of the corrosive forces that allow affluent people to buy their way into institutions of higher learning. “Operation Varsity Blues” provides more than proof that the American educational system is broken; it shows how many people want it to stay that way....

The series is based on a collection of short stories from Ken Liu about Uploaded Intelligence — human consciousness uploaded to the Cloud. “Pantheon” is created and written by Craig Silverstein (“Turn,” “Nikita,” “Terra Nova”) with Liu serving as a consulting producer and Titmouse Inc., animation studio also attached. AMC, which produces through AMC Studios, has placed an initial order for two seasons of the speculative fiction series consisting of eight one-hour episodes each....

In his favorable Sundance review, IndieWire’s David Ehrlich described the film as “a sukiyaki psych-Western that casts Nicolas Cage as a criminal on a mission to rescue a runaway girl from a post-apocalyptic wasteland before the bombs attached to his balls explode.” As for how successful the execution was, he wrote: “‘Prisoners of the Ghostland’ sparks with the thrill of watching two completely self-possessed artists share a vision. Even when nothing else in the film makes sense, the unhinged ethos of its own creation leaves a clue behind with the clarity of a body-chalk outline....

“Reservation Dogs” follows the lives of four Native teens living in Oklahoma. After their best friend’s death, the quartet is determined to leave home and reestablish the group in California. In order to secure the money for their trip, they’ve taken to pulling off petty crimes around their neighborhood, starting with the hijacking of a chip truck. Harjo and Waititi concoct a show just as accessible for the TikTok generation as their parents, filled with movie references any film lover worth their salt can spot as well as a story that feels original and relatable....
